Everyone has things that annoy them, some things are a little bit strange, but they niggle away at you anyway. A Pet peeve is defined as “something that a particular person finds especially annoying.” ‘Pet Peeve’ was thrown around is girl’s magazines aaaall the time along with the words ‘crush’ and ‘cringe alert!’
I have some pretty unique pet peeves, and I’m going to share them with you today. Let me know if you agree, and if you disagree, don’t!
“On accident”
This is one that makes me want to ask people where they went to school so I don’t send my own kids there one day. When people say “on accident” instead of “by accident” I just wonder who raised them. I think you can tell a lot about a person by their grammar but this one is the most annoying discrepancy in education by far.
Grammar
Speaking of grammar, anything that’s wrong online get me too. This is pretty common amongst a lot of people I think, being annoyed by the wring use of they’re, there or their and of your or you’re. How do people over the age of 13 still not know this? This is basic English people. This is basic SAT’s level stuff. You have google at your fingertips, if you still don’t know just google it! No one’s going to know if you google words for your tweet, but the whole world is going to know you’re an idiot and mock you for it if you don’t.
Osmosis
This one is nerdy af. I hate when people say “you’re not gonna learn it by osmosis” or something along those lines. No. No you’re not going to learn it by osmosis. That’s because osmosis only occurs within water. Osmosis is the passive movement of liquid across membranes. What you mean is diffusion. You can not learn by osmosis because we don’t exist in an underwater society, we are not mermaids. And also, information is not even a physical thing.
Over the knee boots
This one might be a bit controversial, but I hate when girls wear over the knee boots over trousers! I honestly can’t stand it. Why? Over the knee boots were made so that your leg is shielded form the elements while you are wearing a skirt and as a bonus, they still look great, sexy even. When they’re worn with jeans stuffed inside them you look like you’re layering up for an artic expedition rather than a night out. Your legs are already covered with your jeans, there’s no reason to add another layer to that? Don’t get it.
Lazy customers
This is another pretty common one. Those people who leave their table a mess at fast food places or leave their popcorn all over the floor and rubbish on the seats at cinemas. Who raised you? There are bins for you to put your rubbish in for a reason? Yeah, people who work there get paid to clean up the general mess, but they’re not just there to put your Big Mac box in the bin because you cba to walk few more steps. Especially when it’s busy. They’ve got other things to be doing, believe me. Just pic up your rubbish and put it in the bin.
Slow walkers
Oh my god. I can’t even. I go to university in Birmingham, so I’m walking through and around the city centre a lot. People just get in your way. All the time. They walk in the middle of a path big enough for two instead of to one side, they stop dead when you’re walking 2 steps behind, they decide to divert across the bull ring to go into a shop on the other side without looking where they’re walking and walk straight into you instead. The worst is trying to walk through Debenhams to pick up something o the way to a lecture, I’ve got half an hour to shop, walk to uni and get to my lecture and people want to weave through the makeup stands like its Mario cart instead of following the main path. Then when they join the path again, they get in your way or someone else’s way which dominoes back to you.
