#SneakyPeaky

No spoilers, I promise!

Last week I got the chance to go along to the Peaky Blinders Season 5 premiere at Birmingham Town Hall! It was my first ever experience at a premiere and was super lucky to have won some tickets via my university, being a local university.

I was super excited for this, but I only found out I’d be going two days before, and it also turned out to fall on the day that my boyfriend was graduating. Lucky for us his graduation was in the morning, so we were able to go to both. We had to get up super early for this, to drive up to Derby Velodrome and then travel to Birmingham almost straight after the ceremony ready for this premiere. Also lucky for me, thanks to graduation, I’d ordered myself a pretty dress that I could also wear for this premiere and look decent instead of having to throw together a half decent outfit out of what I own – which isn’t exactly a fancy wardrobe.

When we arrived at the premiere, we got the chance to view the red carpet before heading inside for the main event. The red carpet started with some local celebs showing their love for the BBC television show including people like Birmingham City FC manager Pep Clotet. It ended with the cast coming out and interacting with the crowd, getting their photos taken and taking selfies with the fans.

We then headed inside to be seated ready to watch the first episode of the upcoming season in the main room of the grade 1 listed town hall. Before it aired the writer and director said a few words and thanked everyone for being there, and then thanked everyone who had worked so hard on the season. They also surprised us by letting us know that we would not only be watching the first episode, but also the first scene of the second episode, because “it’s so epic, it needs to be seen on the big screen”. Very exciting stuff.

We then got to watch the episode & the extra scene. Don’t worry, there will be no spoilers here – I will just say that it is continuing its great writing, camera work, editing and acting and will leave you on the edge of your seat as you get lost in the world of 1929 Birmingham.

After the screening they held a quick Q&A with the writer, director and the cast, answering some pre-chosen questions as well as some from the audience. It was a great peak into the lives of the cast and their thoughts and feelings on this next season and for their own characters.

Overall, I had an amazing time at the premiere, and loved that my first one was also celebrating local history – big up Brum!! Thanks to Birmingham City University for the tickets and thanks to the BBC for such a great event!
